Oil fractionation utilizes the melting points of different fatty acid triglycerides within an oil to crystallize the higher-melting-point fraction through cooling, followed by filtration or centrifugation to separate fractions with different melting points. Fractionation is a completely reversible, thermodynamically based physical modification method that separates a specific oil into two or more components, each with distinct uses.
Currently, dry fractionation has been widely used to fractionate a variety of oils and fats, producing a wide range of oil products, including premium olein, super stearin, and food-grade oils.
Previously, fractionation was used on a small scale, limited to palm oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, beef tallow, and lard. Due to the significant increase in palm oil production in Southeast Asian countries, and the market demand for palm olein far exceeding that of palm oil, fractionation has rapidly developed.
Although fractionation was not initially applied to palm oil, dry fractionation is the most economical method for palm oil. Our company's developed diaphragm plate and frame filter press for dry fractionation of palm oil significantly improves the yield of palm olein (the iodine value of palm olein is 4-5 higher than that of palm oil).

In terms of controlled cooling technology, the cooling rate is controlled by a PLC by selecting crystallization conditions and separation temperatures based on the characteristics of the raw materials and product requirements. Typically, the oil is cooled according to a predetermined cooling water temperature profile, or based on the temperature differential between the oil and the cooling circulating water, to form suitable seed crystals and control their growth, providing optimal conditions for filtration.
